Winnipeg Children’s Choir
Open Rehearsals for Interested New Choristers To Praise God through the Voices of Children Come out to one or both! May 22 & 29, 2018 6 – 8 p.m. North Kildonan Mennonite Church 1131 Roch Street, North Kildonan The Winnipeg Children’s Choir was formed in 2008 to continue the work of its predecessor, The Winnipeg Mennonite Children’s Choir. Judy Neufeld Urbonas, former chorister, alumnus and Assistant Director to WMCC’s Founder, Helen Litz, is joined by Kimberly Lind, Assistant Director and Arlene Neufeld, Accompanist, to provide a unique music-making experience to children aged 8-18. The choir is holding open rehearsal three Tuesdays in May to allow interested singers to attend any or all three to see for themselves what a rehearsal entails, by joining the choristers and taking part in the experience. Parents who wish to are welcome to sit in the back of the room and watch the experience. We are looking for more choristers who:

It was fun to learn some new National Anthems and preparing choreography for Children Helping Children. We hope everyone enjoyed the Performance. We would like to acknowledge and congratulate Marianne Sawatsky and Lukas Sawatsky for their success at this years Winnipeg Music Festival. It is nice to see these fine musicians being recognized for their hard work and dedication to music making. We would also like to congratulate Marianne for her nomination for the Ladies Orange Benevolent Association Trophy. Together as a duet, Marianne and Lukas, sang Lift Thine Eyes by Felix Mendelssohn and were awarded the: GORDON HIGNELL MEMORIAL TROPHY Awarded to the most outstanding performance by a Vocal Group Gordon Hignell’s mother and widow donated the Gordon Hignell Memorial Trophy to the Winnipeg Music Festival in 1951. This trophy was originally given for the most outstanding Grade B Two Song Group Vocal performance. Since 2009, this trophy has been given for the most outstanding performance by a Vocal Group. Gordon Kirby Hignell, the son of V.R. Hignell, was born in 1919. He served with the 197th R.C.A.F. Squadron in World War II. Officer Hignell, a R.C.A.F. pilot, was reported missing over France and declared killed July 23, 1943. Lukas Sawatsky sang in two solo classes:
The Call by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Greensleeves. Lukas was awarded the Winnipeg Male Chorus Trophy as well as two Scholarships. NORMAN PHILLIPS MEMORIAL BURSARIES WINNIPEG MALE CHORUS SCHOLARSHIP The Winnipeg Male Chorus Trophy Awarded for the most outstanding performance in a competition of boys with changed voices, 12 and 14 years of age & under The Winnipeg Male Chorus donated the Winnipeg Male Chorus Trophy to the Winnipeg Music Festival in 1995. The Winnipeg Male Chorus was formed in 1960 and is made up of men from across Winnipeg and surrounding communities. The Chorus objectives are “to foster and promote greater fellowship among men who enjoy singing” and “to maintain a standard of music which will add to the culture of the community and to the entertainment of its people”. The Chorus regularly sings for seniors, for shut-ins, in hospitals, at community events and for those who might otherwise be unable to enjoy choral singing. This trophy is awarded for the most outstanding performance in a competition of boys with changed voices, 12 and 14 years of age & under. |
